ombre heart

Ombre Wooden Heart Sign

It’s Friday! Did you all survive the work week, or more importantly, last night’s Parenthood finale? Well if you need some cheering Valentine’s Day is just two weeks away so I wanted to share with you an easy way to add a little love to your home with this ombré wooden heart sign!

I know what you’re thinking, didn’t I let it slip in the birch wood vase post I don’t usually decorate for the day of love? Yep, you caught me. But a girl can change and this year I’m showing my home a whole lot of Valentine’s Day love.

I got started by cutting a large piece of pine board down to 24″ x 26″.

I sanded it and stained it with Minwax ebony stain. I wanted to give it a rustic feel, so I roughed up the edges with sand paper.

Then I cut 3 strips of tempered hardboard to 6″ x 24″. You could use any thin piece of wood you may have if you don’t have tempered hardboard on hand. I gave all the pieces of wood a light sanding.

I lined up my three pieces of hardboard and hand sketched a heart onto the wood. (See where it used to say bless? This project might’ve changed themes a few times before it was done :) )

I used a jig saw to cut out the heart then painted with different shades of pink.

I used wood glue to attach the heart to the pine board and it was done!

I like the little 3 D effect the hardboard added.

This whole sign was made in one morning, between chasing around two toddlers, so believe me when I say it’s easy! And you know how I love leftover scraps of wood right? Well, you guessed it. This was all made of leftovers again, which makes it feel like a free sign! Score one for me.

Let’s just ignore that at one time the materials did have to be purchased.

Now get busy making this easy ombré wooden heart sign and show your home a little Valentine’s Day love!

        • Thanks for the feedback on the buttons. I believe if you hover over them links should appear (ex: pin it, visit us, etc) and you have to click on what pops up when you’re hovering. I’ll work on fixing this though so it’s more user friendly :)

  3. This is lovely. The pink against the dark stained wood makes a bold statement. Thanks for sharing this on the Spring Craft Blog Hop. Pinned and Tweeted.
